Match Report - 28 Apr 2015, Holtwhites Bowls Club Friendly (3 Triples) beat Grovelands
Our opening seasons men's friendly was a very keenly fought match on a sunny if a little chilly spring afternoon in Grovelands Park.
On a arrival Gerry Foster announced that he had forgotten his shoes! But our go to man Andy Hatvani supplied Gerry who gleefully accepted a pair of Sergio Tacchini shoes which he did not want to return, you old poser!
For the time of year the green bowled very well and after 10 ends Holtwhites were well in command leading 33 shots to 19 and leading on 2 rinks. The final 8 ends saw a spirited fightback by Grovelands, Eddie Dennisons rink losing by 2 shots, shortly followed by Rod Smith posting a 14 shot win. Cue a tense finale on the last rink, Dave Norton having to protect an overall match advantage of 2 shots, finding himself 3 shots down he saved the the day by drawing for second wood, but not before the opposing skip called for a calliper measure!
Friendly banter followed over tea and biscuits with both sides claiming victory.
