HOLTWHITES BOWLS CLUB - NEWS

On a Bank Holiday Monday afternoon when It would have been more appealing to sit and watch the world go by with something cool of your fancy to sip (and a good few did!), 25 brave souls ventured out onto the green in the sweltering heat.

The first round consisted of 5 rinks of 5 players with 3 woods each with the wood furthest from the jack each end losing a 'life', play continued until there was a winner on each rink who progressed through to the final.

The 5 finalists being Mark Catchpole, Ted Evitt, Hannah Hollis, John Hooper and John Sanders. The format for the final as in the first round, With everyone else eliminated the last end was contested between John H and Hannah, John delivering his wood jack high around 2 feet from the jack, Hannah replied by drawing inside John's wood to and retain the Captain's Carafe which she won last year.

For those first round losers there was the opportunity to play a 'target' bowls competition while the main event final was taking place with Rod Smith just pipping Sarah Hooper for the consolation prize.

Following the bowling there were around 45 who enjoyed a wonderful burger and sausage barbecue with all the trimmings of salad, potatoes etc and to finish melon.

Special thanks to all those who made the afternoon such a success especially, Andy for organising the bowls, Barry for the barbecue, Sue, Gill and other helpers for the salad and melon table. Apologies for anyone who I have forgotten.

And thanks to all the members that came along to play, watch, eat have a good 'natter' a drink or 2! for making it a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and evening, and undoubtedly the best club in the area to belong to!
